Soggiorno in Tuscany Itinerary

Day 1 – Sat
ARRIVAL TO VILLA
We transfer you to your accommodation and allow you to settle in and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings which will be “home” for the next 14 days. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 2 – Sun
CORTONA
This morning we drive past ‘Bramasole’ from ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ and visit Chiesa di Santa Margherita. We then make our way to the historical centre for a Caffè and brioche after which you have free time to enjoy the many boutiques, art galleries and all Cortona offers. We will regroup and enjoy lunch at a typical trattoria. Later in the afternoon there will be the option to return to the villa for some relaxation prior to stepping out to dinner. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 3 – Mon
SAN GIMIGNANO & SIENNA
We visit San Gimignano for the morning. This is a beautiful medieval township; a step back in time. This township houses many stores which offer a very broad range of painted ceramics as well as leatherware and alabaster. Two wonderful piazzas where you can simply stroll, visit a museum or climb a tower for a breathtaking view of the Val d’Elsa or enjoy a delicious gelato. After enjoying lunch at a local trattoria, we will head back towards Siena. You will have the afternoon to explore Siena; a visit to the spectacular Piazza del Campo, where the famous bareback horse race is held or Visit Il Duomo, The Mangia Tower or simply stroll the streets and enjoy the ambiance and the various delights Siena offers, from the little food stores with many tempting treats to the beautiful selection of stores/ boutiques. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 4 – Tues
TOUR FREE DAY
You may choose to ‘stay in’ enjoy the grounds and relax, visit Cortona or another local township. Alternatively, you may choose from one of our additional activities: Vespa tour, cycling tour, cooking experience, cheese making class, gelato making class, painting class, hot air ballooning. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 5 – Wed
FLORENCE
Independent train travel to Florence (8:12am train departure – arrive into Florence 9:30am); train tickets, map, and transfer to and from our local train station on the day is included. Should you wish to visit any galleries/monuments, prepurchase of tickets should be arranged prior to your tour commencement to avoid long waiting periods upon your arrival. Visit www.tickitaly.com to familiarise yourself with the various monuments in Florence. This evening dinner will be provided for you in your apartment.

About Florence

Florence is the capital city of Tuscany.
From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. A centre of medieval European trade and finance, the city is often considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and was long ruled by the Medici family. Florence is also famous for its magnificent art and architecture. It is said that, of the 1,000 most important European artists of the second millennium, 350 lived or worked in Florence. The city has also been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. The historic Centre of Florence was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1982.

Day 6 – Thu
CHIANTI
A leisurely day of taking in the most amazing views, whilst driving through this most famous wine growing area of Tuscany. During the morning, we will visit the village of Castellina; we will enjoy a Caffè together after which you will enjoy free time to explore this village which offers a wonderful selection of varied stores. We will then visit a vineyard a short distance away, interact with the winemakers and savour lunch and a wine tasting whilst enjoying spectacular views of the vineyards and olive groves. Return to villa late afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 7 – Fri
TOUR FREE DAY
You may choose to ‘stay in’ enjoy the grounds and relax, visit Cortona or another local township. Alternatively, you may choose from one of our additional activities: Vespa tour, cycling tour, cooking experience, cheese making class, gelato making class, painting class, hot air ballooning. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 8 – Sat
AREZZO
Independent train travel to Arezzo; (9;30am train departure) train ticket, maps, and transfer to and from our local train station on the day is included in the tour cost. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 9 – Sun
PIENZA & MONTEPULCIANO
This morning travel through the Val D’Orcia. Our first stop is Pienza, the birth place of Pope Pius II; a small township famous for Pecorino cheese and beautiful boutiques. After a Caffè at a local bar you will have two hours to explore this gem independently. We regroup and travel to a nearby location for lunch. After lunch we visit Montepulciano, also located in the Val d’Orcia. This township is a true gem, great shopping, wonderful trattorias, cantinas and sulumerie for wine and cheese tastings. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 10 – Mon
CORTONA RESORT & SPA
A wellness package, including half hour massage, Turkish bath, Finnish Sauna, salt room, pool area. Enjoy lunch in the restaurant or lovely grounds surrounded by beautiful gardens and pool. Depart villa mid-morning. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 11 – Tues
COOKING EXPERIENCE
Hands-on Cooking Experience. Depart mid-morning for the short drive into the valley to a local farmhouse. The experience will involve hands-on preparation of various dishes including pasta, main course, side dishes, dessert. Meal is then enjoyed together with the Chef, accompanied by local wine, dessert and sweet wine. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 12 – Wed
ORVIETO
This morning we drive through Umbria to Orvieto. On arrival we enjoy a Caffè after which there is ample opportunity to visit Il Duomo, Saint Patricks Well – 1537 which is 62 metres deep with double spiral staircase or tour the underground city/ caves. Orvieto has a great selection of stores, ranging from leatherware to ceramics and boutiques. Regroup for lunch at a local trattoria. Return to villa late afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 13 – Thu
LUCIGNANO
This morning we visit Lucignano, elliptical in shape, it is known as the ‘pearl of Val di Chiana’. We enjoy a Caffè after which you will free time to visit the local market and the village. We will regroup for a lovely lunch at a trattoria and make our way back to the villa early afternoon. Dinner in Cortona.

Day 14 – Fri

DEPARTURE DAY
After a leisurely breakfast we transfer you to the local train station for your departure.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Our various accommodations are nearby the historical centre of Cortona and set on wonderful grounds which include a swimming pool. The apartments within the villa comprise one/two/three bedrooms, living area, kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities, comprising air-conditioning and WI-FI.

Our accommodation options provide everything the traveller requires for a truly memorable Tuscan escape. Located in the valley approximately 10km from the historical centre of Cortona, the accommodations, which are restored Tuscan farmhouses with old world rustic charm, become home base for the duration of the tour, allowing the traveller to settle into their own private apartment and commence their Tuscan experience.

Getting There

TOUR BEGINS – CORTONA

The Villa is located near Cortona; 2.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Rome (Roma Termini) and 1.5 hours by regional train from the main train station in Florence (Santa Maria Novella).

TRAIN TRAVEL TO THE VILLA:

If you are already in Italy connection to either Roma Termini or Firenze Santa Maria Novella train stations is easily accessible via other train stations.

Either of these two major cities are a good option for your arrival into Italy and then travel to our location. We will meet you at our local train station Camucia-Cortona and will transfer you, via vehicle to the villa, which is a short drive into the countryside.

Arrival from Rome Airport:

  • Take the Leonardo Express Train from Rome Airport to Roma Termini Train Station
  • (This is a 30min journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  • From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona
  • (This is a 2.5hr journey and will cost approximately 15 Euro)

Arrival from Florence Airport:

  • Take the bus that goes to Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station
  • (This takes approximately 30mins and will cost approximately 15 Euro)
  • From there take a regional train to Camucia-Cortona
  • (This is a 1.5hr journey and will cost approximately 13 Euro)
