Everest

Day 1
KATHMANDU
Arrival to Kathmandu Airport where you will be met on arrival and taken to your hotel.

Day 2
KATHMANDU
There will be a sightseeing tour, including the UNESCO World Heritage sights of Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple) and Boudhanath (Buddhist Stupa). You will than have the rest of the day free to explore Kathmandu. The shopping district of Thamel offers some great bargains and a large range of clothing and interesting artefacts where you can test your bargaining skills with the storekeepers.
This evening there will be an orientation with our local guide.

Day 3
KATHMANDU TO LUKLA
Your early morning flight to Lukla (2800m) provides magnificent views of the mountains and an amazing introduction to the Everest region. After your arrival into Lukla you will meet your Sherpa crew and commence the trek to Phakding. Todays walk will be an easy 3 hour walk through small and interesting villages.

Day 4
TREK TO MONZO
The second day of the trek to the village of Monzo (2835m) is about 3 hours, walking along the Dudh Kosi valley through fragrant pine and fir forest while catching good mountain views as you walk. You will have a free afternoon to aid in your acclimatisation.

Day 5
TREK TO NAMCHE BAZAAR
The third day of walking to Namche Bazaar (3445m) passes through the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park then descends to the banks of the Dudh Kosi river to the village of Jorsale. The National Park is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site of “outstand- ing universal value”, and extends over 1148 sq km. The walk continues along the river bank then continues across a suspension bridge and the first ascent to Namche Bazar. The trail winds up to reach a point from where you will get your first magnificent views of Mt Everest through the Dudh Kosi Valley to the northeast. The path then continues through pine trees to reach the distinctive horshoe-shaped bowl containing the village of Namche bazaar. Namche these days has become the heart of the Khumbu region. Todays walk is 3 to 4 hours.

Day 6
NAMCHE BAZAAR
The group remains in Namche Bazaar today for further acclimatisation. This is a very important village for the Sherpa people, and you will have the chance to visit the Sherpa Museum and the Visitor Centre which contains an interesting display of Sherpa life and culture as well as information on the forests, flora and fauna of the area. You will also have the time to stroll around the colourful and lively market area where you will see the Tibetan traders selling the goods they have brought from Tibet crossing over the Nangpa La Pass.

Day 7
TREK TO TENGBOCHE
Today will be a walk of about 6 hours in total, passing through Pangboche for lunch in one of the Teahouses. As we come out of the village bowl, we contour the high trail above the Imja Khola. The views are incredible. Chomolungma (Mother Goddess of Snow) is truly a magnificent sight. And a small ridge across the valley, Tengboche can be seen against the gigantic mountains. Also the wildlife like the Himalayan Thar and Danphe (National bird of Nepal) are likely to be seen on the way.
You will continue onto Tengboche (3800m) along the main trail.

Day 8

TENGBOCHE TO DINGBOCHE
Reaching a height of 4440m, walk of 5-6hrs. The highlight will be a visit to the oldest and most important Buddhist Monastery in the Everest mountain region. The monastery was built in 1916 by Lama Gulu with strong links to its mother monastery known as the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. However, in 1934, it was destroyed by an earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt. In 1989, it was destroyed for a second time by a fire and then rebuilt with the help of volunteers and international assistance. Tengboche is famous because of its spectacular and unique location. It lies on the main route to the Base Camp of Mount Everest and offers clear views of the highest mountain in the world. Tengboche became known to the world after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzin Norgay Sherpa made the first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953. We enjoy the morning views from Tengboche and head down to a small settlement called Deboche. After crossing the Imja Khola once again we get the stunning close view of Amadablam. If lucky enough you can see Lammergire (Bearded vulture) soaring around Somare, a small settlement were we usually eat our lunch on our way to Dingboche.

Day 9
DINGBOCHE 4350m 5-6 hrs walk.
We enjoy the morning views from Tengboche and after visiting the famous Tengboche monastery we head down to a small settlement called Debouche. After crossing the Imja Khola once again we get the stunning close view of Amadablam. If lucky enough you can see Lammergeyer (Bearded vulture) soaring around Somare, a small settlement were we usually eat our lunch on our way to Dingboche. After Somare we walk over the tree line.

Day 10
DINGBOCHE
After breakfast we walk up the ridge just above Dingboche to stretch our muscles and better acclimatization. From this hill the views are spectacular, Amadablam, Tobuche, Cholatse, Lobuche east, Imja Tse, Kangtega, Thamserku, and Makalu.

Day 11
LOBUCHE 4980m 6hrs walk.
The trail from Dingboche ascends broad and gentle sloping valley. We eventually emerge into the terminal moraines of the Khumbu glacier. A steep climb will bring us to higher moraines from where we can see a panoramic view of the mountains and also the death memorials of the climbers and mountaineers those who have lost their lives on Everest and other nearby mountains. Then the trail eases off to the tiny hamlet of Lobuche.

Day 12
EVEREST BASE CAMP 5360m 8hrs walk.
Today is an early day and the walk can be strenuous. We follow the Khumbu Glacier north ward crossing the Changri Nup glacier before reaching Gorakshep. After a short break and some tea we trek and walk on the Khumbu Glacier to our goal EBC. The notorious/treacherous and famous Khumbu Ice fall will be just in front of you and you will wonder “how on earth do people do this”!!  You can see and hear the rock falls in the glacier. We will be at Base Camp for lunch and camp with the expeditioners.

Day 13
EVEREST BASE CAMP
Today is a rest day for you to explore around Base Camp and mingle with the climbers and sherpas.

Day 14
KALAPATHAR 5545m 6-7hrs walk.
Kalapathar literally meaning “Black Rock” in Hindi and is the HIGH POINT on this trek. The breath taking 360 degree view of the mountains from the top of Kalapatthar, the SW Face of Everest including South COL, Lhotse, Pumori, Khumbutse, Changtse in Tibet, Lho La, Lingtren you name it.. It’s a nice little hard slog up but worth every single step. Definitely in your mind you will want to trade your lung with a yak when you see one. After Kalapatthar we head back down to Lobuche.

Day 15
HELICOPTER RIDE DOWN TO LUKLA
In the morning take a helicopter ride down to Lukla (15 minutes flight instead of a 4 day hike down) and take in the amazing views of the highest mountains in the world.

Day 16
FLY LUKLA TO KATHMANDU
We say goodbye to our Sherpa Crew and take the morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu (weather permitting). The afternoon is free in Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU
Today you will have a well deserved rest in Kathmandu with time at your leisure to explore.

Day 18
DEPART KATHMANDU
Today you will be transported to the airport for your flight back home. Say farewell to Nepal and take many wonderful memories with you of your adventures.
